I was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, a small city bordered by the prairies, marshes, and swamps of Southwest Louisiana, an area known for being the hub of Louisiana Creole and Cajun culture. I am trained as a geologist, employed as a university instructor, and have had a lifelong passion for photography and storytelling. This combination is a perfect vantage point from which to examine the natural and cultural context that I am so fortunate to live within. Mastering the technical aspects of analog photography in pursuit of an interpretation of the world sits squarely at the intersection of science and art where I find myself most comfortable.

My artistic muse has always been the South Louisiana landscape. A land built and sculpted over the millennia by the work of water, it is rich in resources, haunting in beauty, and heavy with the troubled history of the South. Documentation of this time and space in the ever-evolving regional geography is a driving force in my photographic practice. Observations made with my camera allow me to truly see a landscape, and I strive to capture details that bring my understanding and appreciation of the environment to the viewer.

In 2023, I collaborated with Marla Kristicevich to publish the book Meander Mindset: Bayou Teche, an artistic exploration of one of South Louisiana’s most iconic waterways. My work has been shown regionally, including at The Acadiana Center for the Arts, Basin Arts, and Glide Studios in Lafayette, LA; and at the New Orleans Photo Alliance and The Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, LA. In 2024, I was invited to speak about my work at the Historic New Orleans Collection for the Jules L. Cahn John H. Lawrence Photography Lecture.

Process

I work primarily with medium and large format film, using a variety of cameras including a Hasselblad 500c, an 8x10 Wisner Convertible Classic, and a handmade 8x10 pinhole camera.

I develop and scan my own film, and while I occasionally make darkroom prints for personal use, prints available for purchase are chromogenic prints made from a digital scan of the negative.
